The Evolution of HRM

The Evolution of HRM

Human Resource Management (HRM) is a recent term used to describe how businesses manage their human resources. Over time, the way HRM has changed a lot and still evolving. At first, it was all about keeping track of employee information and following labor laws [1]. But as businesses grew and competition increased, HRM became more important.

In the past, HRM was all about keeping track of employee information and following labor laws and didn't have much strategic importance. However, as management theory emerged in the early 20th century, the role of HRM started to expand. The focus shifted to managing human capital as a key driver of business success.

During the mid-90’s, the focus of HRM shifted from traditional personnel management to a more strategic approach. This was caused by the need to manage a different workforce, increased competition for talent, and the recognition of the importance of employee engagement and motivation.

The late 90’s shows a further move in HRM towards a more strategic and business-focused approach with the technological advancements and changing social and political landscapes. HRM began to be viewed as a strategic partner in business decision-making, with a focus on aligning HR policies and practices with organizational goals. The introduction of computers and other technological innovations made it easier to manage employee records and modernize HR processes [2].

Today, HRM continues to evolve, due to advances in technology, changing business needs, and the ongoing evolution of management theory. Significant trends in HRM today are the increasing use of data and analytics to inform HR decisions, employee well-being and work-life balance.

Overall, HRM has become a strategic part of business and will continue to be important as businesses grow and change in the future.

  3. Human resource management has been properly integrated with modern technology, which is the reality of the twenty-first century. But if you also included the drawbacks of modern technology, that would help to balance your blog. Examples include the possibility that the human resources department will misplace important employee data, such as their personal data. Overly tech-dependent workers might perform their duties less successfully. Well done!
